In 1966, Yves Saint Laurent was the first Couture House to open a ready-to-wear boutique and by doing so sent shockwaves through the upper class. Under his own name the label YSL Rive Gauche was implemented by the infamous couture house to not only produce handmade and high-priced frocks but reach a broader audience - with wild success. The prototypes were carefully created and designed alongside the couture line. Here is a prime example: a YSL Rive Gauche blazer. The garment is slightly cropped, made of red corduroy with black trims - a colorful fall staple, that should not be missed in any wardrobe. The slight shoulder pads are adding the currently on-trend shape of strong shoulders, a modernizing feature on this classic French design. When comparing this particular jacket, similarities to 1984 couture jackets by YSL can be seen. Starting from the round, big buttons continued by the shoulder pads, becoming most visible in the collar or here the lack thereof.
