LANVIN
We might still be hiding our features behind masks following the example the phantom of the opera set in 1986 but our closets are ready to distract from that. While lacking couture and in-person culture over the past year it is again time to bring out the gowns for opening nights at the opera or early Christmas party.
This particular garment, look 16 from the 2019 fall ready-to-wear show, stems from the heritage luxury fashion icon Lanvin. In January of said year, Bruno Sialelli took over the position of creative director at Lanvin and quickly found a new direction for the brand, diverging from his two short-lived predecessors. The collection itself had gothic influences which are as well visible in the dress. The intricate black prints on a white background feature many details inspired by the middle ages. This intricately cut gown can be tied in the back and features a neck holder style leather chocker, to which the sleeves and the bodice of the dress are attached. Further design elements are combined in this one garment: from open-cut sleeves to layers which give the dress an appearance of being a creation of different silk scarfs.
YSL RIVE GAUCHE
A vintage YSL Rive Gauche fringe bag will beautiful move in sync with the dress’s movement. The structured bag is small in size and can be worn as a shoulder bag while offering enough space to store all the needed essentials. The bag might be a vintage piece but was carefully stored over time, so the fringes are all intact, a detail that speaks volumes of the raw materials quality and craftsmanship. LANVIN
Shoes with cone-shaped heels are a familiar sight for the fans of the deceased creative director Albert Elbaz and the fashion house. Some might be accustomed to the look as the brand collaborated with the fast-fashion giant H&M for a collection in 2010. This collection too included shoes with bow details and a watered-down version of the heel shape. This Lanvin shoe is its predecessor, dating back to fall 2008, with some carryover of the core design elements to the Spring 2009 runway, a season that aged like fine wine. The velvet details are a fabulous touch to make them look more fall/winter appropriate as does the felt that covers the majority of the peep-toed shoe.
JEAN PATOU
Jean Patou is delivering the finishing touch. The statement earring is one of the most sought-after trends in 2021 and these understood the assignment. The asymmetric jewels feature sweet-water pearls and mixed metals. The gold plated brass of these earrings are showing an antique finish and can not only make a statement paired with a gown but as well can spice up every plain black turtleneck look. One of the biggest luxury goods holdings, LVMH, is backing the resurgence of this Maison, dating back to 1914. The brand created fashion under such icons as Christian Lacroix or Karl Lagerfeld until 1987, to continue back its fashion legacy in 2018 - another heritage house has been saved.
A special occasion is rather difficult to dress for, especially in times of social media. Once posted many don’t want to re-appear in the same garment at the next event, posting the same look. Additionally, waiting for the next occasion might result in falling out of love with the only worn once dress. This might not speak true for everyone but if you are like this, a second-hand gown could be the perfect alternative. These garments mostly are worn rarely if not only just once and will look as fabulous as a new gown would.
