DROP 18 | TRENDSPOTTING II
Winter is on the outs and warmer days are coming. Without a doubt, it is high time to awaken crop-tops and crochet bikinis from hibernation and prepare for the transitional period. Due to the fashion cycle might be entering spring and are looking forward to summer but just saw runways full of fake fur coats and fabulous knits for fall/winter 2023. Therefore, now is the perfect moment to take some time and look at the trends that just got launched, be a shopping savant and source pieces to wear for more than just one spring season.
Especially this year there are many parallels to be found between fall and spring trends – not only the typical necessity for layering. Adapting to temperatures being as stable as a Valentinos Spring/Summer Heel 2023 is hard but it does help to achieve on of the most fashionable looks as it gives many options for unexpected pairings and eclectic choices.
With bedazzled everything losing its sparkle like a make-up smudged zirconia soft and shimmering materials are stepping into the limelight. Think satin and silk. These can come in all shapes and sizes from shoes to bags and dresses – the possibilities are basically endless – even though satin shoes might not be known for their longevity.
JONATHAN SIMKHAI | XS
Jonathan Simkhai took a simple blouse and created a detail-oriented, slinky masterpiece. The shiny garment made of satin almost
looks like it slid down the wearer’s shoulder, with a loose, oversized, draped collar to match. An asymmetric hem is enhancing this look, while the champagne coloring keeps the garment classic and elegant enough for the day- and nighttime.
PRADA
Big bags might be the most talked about trend but small shoulder bags are and will remain very popular for those who don’t want to be tempted to bring their household with them on a daily basis. Within the Prada DNA are the clean lines, expertly executed in form of a rectangular bag. The small satin piece comes in a bright hue of red. Coming with their typical Prada triangle logo the top-handle purse is usable for a multitude of events – from cocktail hour to daytime grocery runs.
PRADA | 40
Prada is setting statements in Satin for quite some time. From headbands to ties and bags, currently, dozens of articles are offered in the shiny material. Instead of going for an embellished skirt, hard to sit in and style for the daytime, a shiny satin skirt is a perfect alternative.
Another way to shine is to opt for patent leather. The fabric has been around as a background character but now is making moves to take center stage. Especially cool when taking shape of jackets or bags but even shoes grew up mary janes to full-fledged attention grabbers.
PRADA | 42 IT
Prada, known for clean and minimalistic pieces with a cool twist can be the only one who created this Trench. Perfect for the in-between seasons this piece comes in a dark khaki color – making it a multitalented closet staple. With elbow patches, two pockets and a detachable belt the coat is oozing craftsmanship in every seam and a thoroughly thought trough design.
LOUIS VUITTON
A vintage Louis Vuitton made in the Maisons iconic Vernis. The small handbag in cream is a fun addition to any wardrobe, especially now that patent leather is a trend to be reckoned with for the fall/winter – at least when looking at the latest runways.
DIOR | 38
The vintage pumps in a saturated beige scream old money aesthetic. The low heel paired with the square toe are decorated with a dainty bow for even more detail. Comfortable enough to walk around in the entire day they as well give the wearer some height, without being to over the top for an office environment. Another classic created by the fashion house known to not only set trends but to also create everlasting staples.
COURRÈGES | 38
Be courageous in Courrèges spring 2016, look 57, ready to wear. This mod-style dress with its clean lines and short skirt shows strong 60s references, the label's prime decade. The different materials and hues of blue are playing off of each other for an interesting to look at structure within the dress. The entire front can be open and closed by solid press buttons, to prevent any accidents. Ever since the brand’s re-awakening with the LVMH price wining duo Sébastien Meyer and Arnaud Vaillants, there is hope for a fashionable future.
Not to be missed are sheer fabrics, used in any color under the rainbow or design. Perfect to create organic and flowy details the light and see-through materials can create movement and softness in a playful and romantic way. But of course, they also come in a more expected and extravagant manner to make any wearer look like sexy glamazon.
PHILOSOPHY DI LORENZO SERAFINI | 38
In the brands typical style, a blouse was created with an abundance of ruffles gracing the front and cuffs of the garment. The piece was made in a soft cream, see-through fabric which is showing a delicate structure of squares. Created for their resort 2019 collection the elevated staple is perfect for the rising Mermaid core trend but will be able to pair with every look – either buttoned up or casually worn with jeans.
NINA RICCI | 40
For the often-shifting weather it might finally be the time to add a raincoat. This one is very glamorous, with its see-through and shiny material with woven in silver threads. The light blue color can brighten up every rainy but warm day, and gold buttons will sparkle with even the slightest ray of sunshine.
GIAMBATTISTA VALLI | M
The gown showcased here might not be Couture but does show some references. Similar details, as the ruffles and capes, could be recognized on the runways of 2018 couture or 2017 resort. This gown itself has been shown at the ready-to-wear runway of Spring 2016, look 45 in grass green. A great example of the designers’ ability to create timeless pieces in an effortless style.
The pistachio-colored gown will softly flow around you and give you a celestial appearance. Black-tie never has been this comfortable – the silk on the skin is very lightweight and the dress is not restrictive in any way. Beautiful ruffles and a cape-like back add to the royal aesthetic of the dress, which will make every wearer feel like a princess.
No 21 | L
From the runways to the red carpet sheer garments were rising in popularity among celebrities and designers.
A blouse is easY to style – not presenting the same challenges as a dress in that trend. If worn over a bralette, under a blazer, or with a camisole and a pair of classic jeans, this item is on-trend, yet easy to integrate into every wardrobe.
MARC BY MARC JACOBS | 6 US
Marc Jacobs designs are always detail-oriented and sometimes extravagant. Here he took a white blouse, exaggerating the collar into a dagger style in a shimmering yet sheer material. To keep the wearers’ modesty intact an explosion of ruffles is added to the front while the back is left bare.
Knits are another reoccurring theme – for all seasons. Warmer-weather knits might keep the heavy material and texture but lose the sleeves and expose the wearers’ mid-drift. What is here to stay are more colorful, patterned and texturally interesting.
PRADA | 40 IT
For their Fall/Winter 2017 collection Prada crochet this beautiful bralette. The selfmade-looking garment in a bright blue can be worn from winter to summer – either with an oversized cardigan, on its own with shorts or wide-legged pants. With contrasting threads the piece looks fun and young while still keeping its modern vibe without any clear patterns or embroideries.
PATOU | S
This sleeveless sweater from Patou can be styled as a slipover or as a top. For the warmer days, it is easy to pair with a classic white T-shirt/blouse, and when it gets colder with a black turtleneck. The options for this piece are basically endless. With its colorful piece is easy to pair with basically any color while modernly re-interpreting a very 70-esque pattern. With a mix of cashmere and wool, the piece is warming but not able to make anyone sweat.
ETRO | M
Etro put this top in a multitude of colors on their Spring/Summer 2022 runway. This version in a rich green is ready for another season in the sun. The spaghetti strap top is decorated with a small cutout close to the hem. In addition to that the brand name is embroidered on the front in black as is the famed Pegasus synonymous with the brand.
Finally, after many years of clean lines and sleek looks designers dare to be detail-oriented. The embrace of the unexpected is in full swing and brought back the cold shoulder. Not in an early 2010s way but more in a slouchy off-the-shoulder style. From decorative lace-ups to more discreet cut-outs there is a sheer endless array of options. Often lace-up details are also paired with cargo styles, as both can be a part of the utility aesthetic.
HERVÉ LÉGER | L
Hervé Léger is the king of bodycon dresses and reigned supreme over 2000s clubwear. After going unnoticed for a couple of years the brand is launching a comeback. When looking at their most recent collections it is less bandage dresses and more body-hugging and curve-shaping dresses like this. A turtleneck with long sleeves gets some added interest with a lace-up detail from cuff to shoulder. Furthermore, is the striped fabric
elongating the wearer – an added benefit of the structured material.
JACQUEMUS | 46
The French IT-label Jacquemus is responsible for this cargo-inspired skirt. The dark brown color of the skirt makes it easy to style, while the cut outs around the waist give an interesting added detail. With a long slit in the back it is easy to walk in, as the fabric has little stretch.
