DROP 18 | TRENDSPOTTING

Winter is on the outs and warmer days are coming. Without a doubt, it is high time to awaken crop-tops and crochet bikinis from hibernation and prepare for the transitional period. Due to the fashion cycle might be entering spring and are looking forward to summer but just saw runways full of fake fur coats and fabulous knits for fall/winter 2023. Therefore, now is the perfect moment to take some time and look at the trends that just got launched, be a shopping savant and source pieces to wear for more than just one spring season.

Especially this year there are many parallels to be found between fall and spring trends – not only the typical necessity for layering. Adapting to temperatures being as stable as a Valentinos Spring/Summer Heel 2023 is hard but it does help to achieve on of the most fashionable looks as it gives many options for unexpected pairings and eclectic choices.

One of the omnipresent trends are florals – yes, florals for spring Groundbreaking – but this time they will be carried over all the way to spring 2024. From micro patterns to oversized blooms that are almost abstract, the pattern is not one size fits all but there is one for everyone Many prints could be seen, either on a black base or in more colorful versions, on the most sought-after colors for the year.

PHILOSOPHY DI LORENZO SERAFINI | 34

For his resort 2017 collection, Lorenzo Serafini went all in on the details. The dress alternates a striped fabric printed with a micro floral pattern and black lace, creating a patchwork of materials. With some tie-up details, the vintage-inspired layered dress looks like a mix of a 60s girl with some western influences. Ending over the wearer’s knee the midi-dress can be appropriately styled for basically any occasion.

JIMMY CHOO | 38,5

With mules still being the hottest summer staple, this kitten-heeled pair by Jimmy Choo can again take center stage. In a floral print of pink, white and green these have been for sale the first time approximately 20 years ago and just now can be taken out of their box for the Y2K revival again.

KENZO JEANS | 38

Light blue was ubiquitous at the last fashion week. Kenzo used the cool hue as a base for an eclectic floral pattern. Added was embroidery anglaise for a playful note as well as a contrasting patterned strip of fabric in white and light blue for a coherent color-story. Two buttons at the front finish of the dress comfortable and easy-going dress.

PACO RABANNE | 36

Here retro meets modern. In this one design by the brand Paco Rabanne an almost excessive amount of detail can be found. A floral pattern paired with white cuffs and a very dramatic almost western-style back detail and collar make a statement piece. The double dagger-style collar is putting an emphasis on the upper part of the garment and is balancing the romantic pattern into something cool.

MIU MIU | 44 IT

Miu Miu excels in feminine and frivolous designs. This low-rise skirt is the epitome of the early oughts fashion. On an orange base flowers appear to be painted on with watercolor giving an abstract and artistic design to the clean lines of the skirt.

VALENTINO

Abstract roses, subtle highlights and perfectly oversized - it's all in one Valentino bag. The XXL shopper can not only be carried by its handle but also thrown casually over the Shoulder. On a cream base of glossy satin big paillettes from a floral pattern, that look so light as they could sway in the wind like individual rose petals.

If florals are to tame one could take a walk on the wild side with animal prints. The patterns that took a long hiatus from fashion plan to come back with a roar. Some claim the pattern to be a neutral, but this
time it comes in unexpected colors and materials, but more grown-up and sleeker than it has ever been before.

FERRAGAMO

Ferragamo is a brand of juxtaposing attributes. On the one hand the very proper and conservative maker of staples for the aging upper class but as could be seen in the early oughts’ or the fall/winter 2023 runway the brand can also be for the fashion-forward. Like here: the idea of a matching belt and bag is very conservative but due to the pink and cream coloring in pony hair, the set gets a very different vibe. The typical circular Ferragamo hardware is seen as a blet buckle as well as on the bags strap, making sure the branding is subtle enough not to be noticed by everyone but only those in the know.

VERSUS VERSACE | 38

A pink white zebra printed mini dress, decorated with a gold, oversized safety pin could only be created by one infamous fashion house: Versace. The asymmetric bodycon dress is high-necked, looking like a sheath dress but the added toga-style front is giving it some momentum. A garment, that expertly combines many contradictions and styles, without looking messy.

ALEXANDER MCQUEEN | 42

One of the most debated questions in fashion is the environmental impact of the industry. An industry in transformation, to avoid increasing pollution, better late than never. Alexander McQueen already referenced this important topic in his spring-summer 2009 collection. Named “Natural Dis-tinction/Un-natural Selection“ the designer took the position of an environmentalist. He artistically referenced the Darwinist concept “Survival of the Fittest”. This particular dress is part of the latter part of the show, representing the negative impact of the 21st century on evolution. The dress is not seen in the show, but between looks 27 to 32, the print is seen on and off again.

On almost every runway there was one model clad in red. The fiery, crimson hue is perfect for hot summer nights or to warm up a cool day. But it is no color for the faint-hearted who like to blend in. After the bright Bottega Green Valentino Pink might have been a first indicator on our way to red – but this time it is not so closely associated with just one brand that Pantone will add a label to a shade. This just will add to the longevity of the color and the trend – as no exchange of creative director can put it in the outs.

PRADA

Big bags might be the most talked about trend
but small shoulder bags are and will remain very popular for those who don’t want
to be tempted to bring their household with them on a daily basis. Within the
Prada DNA are the clean lines, expertly executed in form of a rectangular bag.
The small satin piece comes in a bright hue of red. Coming with their typical
Prada triangle logo the top-handle purse is usable for a multitude of events –
from cocktail hour to daytime grocery runs.

PREEN BY THORNTON BREGAZZI | S

Very Y2K and perfect for 2023 is this wrap skirt. With different length and layers the skirt is getting an interesting look, appearing more streamlined and clean than romantic and playful. The mix of different hues from red to bright pink is a bold statement and perfect for the transformation of trends. Also, it could fabulously be styled over pants, or for the very bold ones maybe even as a wrap top.

YVES SAINT LAURENT VARIATION | 38

The 80s were bold, glamorous and loud – just like this cropped YSL Variation blazer is. This cropped blazer is accented with a black collar and matching buttons. With its slightly pointed corners, it looks almost like a vintage riding garment, while the popped-up collar and the material give it a more elegant note – something that definitely used to be part of a power suit.

THEBE MAGUGU | S

Comfortable or a fashion statement? With these red pants both options are available. A tie closure makes these pants perfect for lounging around at home but they can as easily be dressed up for a day out and about, with a chunky knit or shirt – the options are basically endless, as the classic pants are elevated with their crimson color and a knee-high slit in the front, while still giving an interesting structure to the look.

If the red is a bit too bold there is a classy, more subtle competitor in the running for IT color of the season. Just like florals pastel tones are a spring staple – like this year’s pale baby blue. It might be in high demand for now but will be carried over to the colder month.

PRADA | 40 IT

For their Fall/Winter 2017 collection Prada crochet this beautiful bralette. The selfmade-looking garment in a bright blue can be worn from winter to summer – either with an oversized cardigan, on its own with shorts or wide-legged pants. With contrasting threads the piece looks fun and young while still keeping its modern vibe without any clear patterns or embroideries.

ANN DEMEULEMEESTER | 40

A classic light blue blouse couldn’t be any less boring, due to the expertise of Ann Demeulemeesters design team. The sleeves are too long as is the shirt itself, almost passing as a mini dress. Pleats are added in the back as well as to the cuffs, creating a wide swinging back and puffy sleeves. Even the front is decorated with some pleats, putting the button strip center stage.

slightest ray of sunshine.

PRADA | 42 IT

This cocktail dress by Prada does what Prada does best: surprise in a typically dramatic manner. Created of the most luscious satin in a bright turquoise the color alone is a statement. An integrated boned bustier is giving the wearer shape as well as security. Furthermore, this detail is subtly showing at the neckline, giving the dress a sexier look. At the front a deconstructed rose is added combined with a subtle bustle at the back to give the dress a certain degree of grandeur. This garment is perfect for a modern-day Marie Antoinette.
