HEAVY KNIT

Like clockwork, with the beginning of autumn comes the return of knitwear. But this year knits will be wider, thicker and heavier than in the last years – plus they come in pant form. Given the current political climate - in Europe as well as globally - wearing warming clothes is a direct reflection of the current state of the world. With everything appearing to be sinking into chaos, everyone is looking for security and comfort, a search starting each day in front of the closets. The pieces can be colorful or have an interesting structure but, in any case, the motto this season is: it's all about the details.

SONIA RYKIEL | size S

The late Sonia Rykiel was nicknamed the "Queen of the Knit" for a reason. She was the master of her class and created intricate and unique designs – something that still is a signifier for the brand to this day. In this case the mastery can be seen in form of a cardigan that's decorated with puffy ruffles and oversized buttons to create a more memorable look to what has traditionally been a rather understated garment.

PACO RABANNE | size M

Paco Rabanne uses three monogrammed buttons on one shoulder instead of a visible logo to mark this sweater as his design. These buttons also make it possible to create a very high-necked sweater of a thick material with very little stretch. The checked pattern in cream, white and beige is elegant but by no means boring but playful and versatile.

ALBERTA FERRETTI | size 40 IT

The career of Ferretti started by opening a boutique in 1968. She was selling back then lesser-known designers as e.g. Gianni Versace or Armani. Soon these would become her competitors, when she opened her own fashion house, with classic, feminine and delicate designs. The knitted dress is not only casual but as well comfortable. After a long day, nothing is better than relaxing in a comfortable but also elegant dress.

The boat neckline creates a flattering shape, which is complemented by three-quarter-length sleeves. Overall, this piece can be estimated to be from the 80s - but it doesn't look old-fashioned, but is a great vintage find.

ALAIA | size 36

Like many of the most artistic fashion designers, Alaia preferred working with his hands, creating shapes directly on the body. His creativity has always been more important to him than financial success. That means fashion shows only took place, when Alaia felt like he had something new to show. So investing in a luxuriously heavy knit dress from the brand is almost like buying a piece of art. This one is featuring minuscule laser-cut details, one of the brand’s signifiers. The big box pleats create a flattering shape, an interesting structure, and creates an almost sculptural three-dimensional form.
